AGE OF REASON'S WORLD

We're dying share all our SS12 photos with you, but we're being restrained until the website launch on Feb 29th. In the meantime here's a little peek into our world. 

Above is the Age of Reason desk, variously used by Ali and Charlie. Our favourite item on this desk is the bird painting by Victor Reyes of the 7th Letter Crew. This was an art swap with Reyes, who Ali did a pen and ink drawing for. Our other favourite thing is the wooden medicine man mask hanging on the wall on the left.  Ali bartered for this in Bandiagara Mali a few years back. There's also a South African tumb piano hanging on the wall on the right above the old travelling chest.

This is Ali's drawing table on a lovely sunny day. Most of the furniture was lovingly collected from Spitalfields market and ebay. The storage boxes came from a stall at a fair in Brighton. The best thing though is the little Phil Frost painting, which takes pride of place above the desk.  We like a bit of art. 

STYLING A SCARF

We love to experiment with different ways of wearing our scarves, and recently we've been enjoying piling them on, tying them together, and generally going for a multiple scarf look. The first pic shows a model with two long pug scarves tied together and pocket squares tied to the ends. Our stylist Lisa braided pocket squares into the model's hair in the second picture, and tied 90x90 square round her neck with a bow at the side. The 136x136 cm scarf in the last picture looks huge because it's simply folded diagonally and tied behind the neck. YOUR CREATIVITY

We like these raw and slightly unnerving pictures by blogger Hivenn. She took them in the summer, and somehow, with a billion things going on we missed that window of current-ness.  There's something a bit Twin Peaks about this sub-industrial hinterland. What's in those bushes? It scares us bit, and we like it.  Age of Reason is always looking for creative responses to our work,  so if you have an idea get in touch.

The fabulous Design Bureau Magazine has featured our Anarchy Jack Bold scarf in their January- February issue. The mag is a goldmine if you are into art, architecture, fashion and design. We've given out a few early Christmas pressies to the great, the good and the downright fab. I WILL NEVER SURRENDER

Every now and then we like to give you a sneak preview of a design from next season's collection. This SS12 scarf "I Will Never Surrender" measures 140x140cm and comes in silk crepe de Chine and Chiffon. The splatter painted border adds pops of colour to the flattering grey background. We've kept this silver grey from season 1 because it looks great on absolutely everyone.

AW12 INSPIRATIONS

Age of Reason has been to the wild and windy city of Edinburgh 

to seek inspiration for Autumn Winter 2012.

MEET ALEXIS- AND NAME A SCARF

Without giving too much away, we'd like to introduce you to Alexis, one of our Bondage Dolls for SS12.  Named after uber-stylist Alexis Knox, an original Age of Reason supporter known for her appearance on T4 Style The Nation. The real life Alexis is not just a TV star, but a downright cool chic and doyenne of all things "major".  Alexis's namesake has cheeky nurse styling and some popping neons to brighten up your day. And, although you can't tell from this small image,  the design also incorporates 12 different tones of grey, inspired by the painting "Diacetoxyscirpenol" by Damien Hirst. You can pick up the Hirst for  £18K.  The scarves will be available in silk from around £120 next season.

HOW TO WEAR THEM- WHISTLES REGAL DOLLS

There really are no rules when it comes to how to wear a Whistles Regal Doll scarf this Autumn Winter. But here's a few suggestions anyway.

Wear them with a light trench, wear them with muted wooly jumpers or coloured blazers. You'll find plenty of nude blazers out there that go brilliantly with them. 

 Try them casually round your neck, in a top knot-bow (like in CAPTURED below) , in a Jackie O under the chin knot, twisted as a bandana, in a bow on the side of your neck, as a belt over a dress and cardigan, as a cravat with a boyish shirt.

WRITER SOPHIE WOOLLEY IN AGE OF REASON

We love these photos of writer/ actor Sophie Woolley wearing her Age of Reason Cecilia scarf.  They were taken by Liam Ricketts. Sophie is known for her acerbic  writing style, especially her one woman plays When to Run and Fight Face. Sophie also appeared as runaway bride Gabriella in the Channel 4 TV Series  CAST OFFS by Jack Thorne, Alex Bulmer and Tony Roche.

AGE OF REASON WALKS TALL for SAVE THE CHILDREN

 Age of Reason was invited by Grazia Magazine to the first ever  Save the Children mile long charity walk, part of  "Born to Walk Tall". The event today was raising awareness about much needed healthcare services worldwide,  and honouring the people who work in the field.   Save the Children aims to encourage groups around the country to organise their own  mile long walks to raise money for the 8 million children who die every year due to lack of treatment.

 Samantha Cameron headed up today's walk from No. 10 Downing Street to Somerset House alongside Dr Hajara Kera, a leading Nigerian midwife who works for Save the Children. The newly announced British Fashion Award nominees like Sarah Burton, Christopher Bailey, Christopher Kane, Charlotte Olympia, Erdem Moralioglu, and a handful of new designers (like us) joined the fun and flamboyant debut walk.  


Apart from everyone wholeheartedly supporting the cause, and wanting to contribute creatively,  there was also a sense of excitement at being allowed into No. 10 at all.  Nobody from fashion did a knickerless twirl or said anything too inappropriate on this official occasion. But we had a great time anyway!

AGE OF REASON STYLING COMPETITION WINNER

Taking inspiration from Alexis Knox's appearance on T4 Style The Nation, when she wore an Age of Reason scarf; our styling competition was announced in June.  We judged it this week, and it has been an absolute blast.

We asked our customers to send in pictures of themselves in their Age of Reason scarves for the chance to win scarves with a retail value of £500. Unsurprisingly we received an influx of great images.

After selecting 4 customers that really stood out, we put it to a public vote on Twitter. The overall winner was Lara Kay, who styled herself in a racy- nothing-but-my-scarf look.  She will get a selection of scarves. The runners up will also receive prizes.

WHISTLING WHILE WE WORK

We're making gorgeous labels for our Whistles collection. Each label is lovingly stamped with a miniature version of the gold "Made in England" ship chop created for us by talented design agency Fred and Eric.
