A MONTH IN PICTURES - OCTOBER 2012

Participating in the first ever Best of Britannia show was the hands-down highlight of October. Ali had fun sampling Claire English's silver bubble blower and wearing Age of Reason "Karl be Nice" badges. We've  done some market shopping in Spitalfields and purchased a Blythe doll who looks great in our Jubilee pocket squares. Closer to home, we've visited Fashion and the Flag at Brighton Museum to gawp and gasp at various union flag inspired creations from the likes of Dame Viv Westwood and Alexander McQueen.

COME TO YOUR SENSES - THE BEST OF BOB 2012

We've been inspired, excited, surprised and amazed over the past 3 days whilst exhibiting at Best of Britannia in London.  This exclusively British Made trade and retail show uses the tag line "Come to your senses" on its brochure, and now we understand why. We've tasted, we've smelled, we've touched, we've seen and we've heard things we didn't think were possible.

Our Galleon ship stamp represents quality, integrity,  longevity and a dash of adventure. It is inspired by London's historic silk trade and cloth manufacturing heritage.

Set in the historic Farmiloe building in Clerkenwell, the show attracted some of the UK's most skilled designer makers to exhibit, from Moulton bikes, to Anglepoise giant lamps and Hose tights. Kate Hills, Founder of Make it British asks "Who says Britain doesn't make anything anymore?" Quite right! Sock it to 'em Kate!

We strive to offer something quintessentially British, of extremely high quality enhanced by a playful twist drawn from out British punk heritage. Deborah Meaden, entrepreneur and owner of luxury goods brand The Merchant Fox swung but our stand on Friday and was very enthusiastic about our brand. She defines British designer strengths- "What we do well is something that is traditional, but presented in a relevant, modern way." (Apply that to Age of Reason scarves, and perhaps change to IRREVERENT )

What was clear about all the BoB exhibiting brands was not only a passion for British manufacturing,  but an obsession with making the best possible products.  Two minutes talking to Giles Ellis of  Schofield Watches is enough to convince anyone that this is a man who cares about watches more than you thought possible, but the results are exquisitely made timepieces with a seductive "heft" to them.  Tusting bags,  Pashley Cycles,  Archie Foal knitwear,  Jessica de Lotz  jewellery and Demarquette chocolates exhibit the same passion.

The Age of Reason Pirate Queen scarf was shown at BoB, and proved a hit with Deborah Meaden, and while it's on her Christmas list, we're quite sure she won't be wearing hers like this.

A brand, which particularly stood out to us was Dashing Tweeds, a company making tweed from 99% wool and 1% reflective yarn. Their product range includes cloth by the meter, reflective tweed cloaks and coats you can cycle in and some natty hats. This is exactly the sort of completely bonkers thing we love and expect from our fellow British designer makers. And we can't help thinking what brilliant stage outfits they would make for those of a rock and roll persuasion.

Dashing Tweeds  are British Made fabrics with an exciting difference.  They have produced for House of Holland and Hudson Shoes,  and have worked on a collaboration with Topshop.

We walked away with quite a few purchases ourselves, feeling absolutely justified at the premium cost because we've bought beautiful lifetime lasting things (apart from the chocolates that is!) We've also had a good chinwag with everyone from the other designers and visitors to Deborah Meaden, Mary Portas and Melanie Rickey; all people who've offered us their perspective and been very positive about our brand.

We're already looking forward to the next BoB Event, around October 2013, when we hope to do it all again! The passion and energy so far have been fantastic.

A MONTH IN PICTURES- SEPTEMBER 2012

With lots of birthdays on the way in and around Age of Reason towers, we've been treating ourselves. Ali bought these beautiful log bark candles from I-Gigi Hove to keep us in good spirits as the long evenings get a little shorter. Another fabulous purchase was the leather backpack from French and English Confectioners , which is used to carry Age of Reason's portable office (aka Le Mac Book).

Ali's been seeking inspiration in The Design Museum and at shops like The Lollipop Shop and SCP.

AUTUMN WINTER 2012 LAUNCHES WITH VIDEO FEAT. PIXIE LE KNOT

Our Autumn winter and permanent collections have launched online in style with the release of "Pretty Twisted" a film featuring top UK contortionist Pixie Le Knot.  Pixie, who is known for her appearance in  "The Devil Inside", effortlessly styles scarves whilst contorting her body into wild and wonderful positions.

Inspired by Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, the film uses an instrumental version of the track "Boxing Day" by Dark Horses a UK band producing hauntingly powerful tracks voiced by Lisa Ella Jones. In the background two mysterious characters read from Swift's novel.

The film was shot at our HQ in Brighton by secretive director duo Azam, and director of photography Lester De Havilland. Zoe Hunter was responsible for the bold goth-punk hair and make up.
A beautiful "Making Of" film was shot by Salute HQ of Brighton.

AGE OF REASON AUTUMN WINTER 2012 SCARVES

Here's a sneak preview of our AW12 collection, due out very soon. Ali designed the collection in bright and berry tones to compliment the inky clothes and deep purples we're expecting to be wearing in AW12. Punk owls and roller-skates are just two of the treats in store. Each piece is on a limited run, so fans will need to get their skates on to bag on of these. In the meantime our SS12 sale continues. Don't miss out.

TRENDHUNTER FEATURES AGE OF REASON PUG SCARVES

Trendhunter  has done us the honour of featuring Age of Reason pug scarves this week. Trendhunter is the brainchild of inovator Jeremy Gutsche and seeks to "Find Cool Before it's popular" using an army of hunters who create articles, which can then be ranked by the community. Hunter Shiori Mine penned this great little write up, which captures our punk spirit well.

The Age of Reason ‘Pug Scarves’ is a series of fashion-forward scarves with a cuddly canine twist. The British retailer specializes in distinctive fine silks that range from pocket-sized squares to extra long stoles.
The playfully patterned accessories feature colorful drips and splashes with an illustration of a punky pug character. The scarves are an ode to iconic British references such as the Union Jack and the underground UK punk scene. Pugs have been long-loved by the British monarchy ever since its introduction by Queen Victoria herself. These pooch-themed kerchiefs are the perfect accessory for the pet-loving stylista in your life. You can’t help but smile at the dopey-eyed expressions on these charming little pups.
London will only be a step away when you strut down the streets in one of these adorable Age of Reason ‘Pug Scarves’."

STYLIST MAGAZINE FEATURES OUR JUBILEE SCARF

As fashion magazines go, Stylist offers the creme-de-la-creme of sartorial tips, so it's great to be featured on their style -list. We've been obsessed with this free mag for ages, so we're thrilled to be in print and online this week.

We also loved Rob Ryans' cutout Jubilee cover. It's a bit of a shame that it was covered by an outer cover with advertising on, but clearly Stylist need the work to be funded somehow.

A MONTH IN PICTURES - MAY 2012

This month at Age of Reason HQ, we've been preparing for a good old Jubilee knees up.
Pictured below are some of our Jubilee scarves in various sizes.  Ali's getting into the knees up spirit already in a pair of very un-British leggings from Naked Ape in Reykjavik.
